Inter-MISSION: Super 8
Thursday Mar 31, 2022
Thursday Mar 31, 2022
It's Inter-MISSION time! Drew and Rafe follow up their conversation about Super 8 with ideas they might have missed the first time around, including several ideas we pushed to the Inter-MISSION including key locations and how to stat a town. They trope the new characters they've picked in the draft, then chat about what is catching interest on Kickstarter. Finally, they reveal the movie they'll be talking about for our next episode - a movie they both will be going blind into!

5. Super 8 (2011) with Jonathan Gilmour and Doug Levandowski
Thursday Mar 17, 2022
Thursday Mar 17, 2022
We are so excited about this month's movie/game discussion we can't even put it into words. Joining us to dissect and analyze J.J. Abrams' Super 8 are the creators of the Kids on Bikes RPG: Jonathan Gilmour and Doug Levandowski! We tear into "the most 'kids on bikes' movie that ever was" and realize it isn't quite the movie we thought it was. Opinions will differ, friendships will form, and enemies will be made, as we talk about the movie and then come up with some truly interesting ideas on how to run a game inspired by this movie!
What approach would you use to run a Super 8 inspired game? Would your game be centered around a mystery or would you also attempt an emotional journey at its core? Let us know what inspiration this film has given you, or just contact us if you want us to throw some questions toward the creators of one of our favorite games. Friday Feb 18, 2022
It's Inter-MISSION time! Drew and Rafe follow up their conversation about Now and Then with ideas they might have missed the first time around, although they find they did a pretty cohesive job of discussing the movie in the main episode. They answer some listener feedback, including troping the characters they've picked in the draft, then chat about what is catching our interest on Kickstarter. Finally, they reveal the movie they'll be talking about for our next episode, including a pretty big tease of what the next film discussion will bring.

4. Now and Then (1995)
Thursday Feb 03, 2022
Thursday Feb 03, 2022
This month we are changing gears again with a uniquely different "kids on bikes" film: Now and Then. Not only is the movie one of the rare kids on bikes films to feature an all-female cast of protagonists, but we are also dealing a lot more with family drama and mystery than any sort of action sequences. Still, if you want a film that really captures the feeling of a kids on bikes campaign, this is one that you must see. Drew and Rafe have all sorts of ideas on how to adapt this film into a campaign that will give your role-players a chance to shine!
What approach would you use to run a Now and Then inspired game? Would you make the supernatural threat real or just the illusion of one? And how would you integrate Truth or Dare into your game? Let us know what inspiration this film has given you. Interact with the show on Instagram and Twitter or email us at theneversaydiepodcast@gmail.com.

It's Inter-MISSION time! Drew and Rafe follow up their conversation about The Lost Boys with ideas they might have missed the first time around, including some weird ideas like a Lost Boys/Mad Max crossover and vampire bears. We also dive deep into the other pieces of the Lost Boys franchise. We chat about what is catching our interest on Kickstarter, and then reveal the movie we'll be talking about for our next episode!

3. The Lost Boys (1987)
Thursday Dec 30, 2021
Thursday Dec 30, 2021
This month we're tackling one of the best vampire movies to ever target kids on bikes: The Lost Boys! Drew brings up childhood trauma caused by trying to emulate one of the movie's characters, Rafe talks about establishing vampire mythology, and the duo defend the movie in our regular "good/bad/ugly" segment from each other's complaints. Why does Kiefer Sutherland's mullet look so good? Why is there an arbitrary sex scene thrown into the film? Who knows! But we have a great time breaking it down and getting ideas for our game tables.
What approach would you use to run an Lost Boys inspired game? Would you terrorize players with vampires? Werewolves? Sea monsters? Let us know what inspiration this film has given you. Interact with the show on Instagram and Twitter or email us at theneversaydiepodcast@gmail.com.

It's Inter-MISSION time! Drew and Rafe follow up their conversation about Attack the Block with ideas they might have missed the first time around, including an additional RPG you might try using for your game system and several pieces of related media for more Attack the Block related ideas. We chat about what is catching our interest on Kickstarter, and then reveal the movie we'll be talking about for our next episode!

2. Attack the Block (2011)
Tuesday Nov 30, 2021
Tuesday Nov 30, 2021
After starting last month with The Goonies, Drew picked a movie for our second episode that swings almost to the other end of the Kids on Bikes spectrum: 2011's Attack the Block. Join us as we discuss this underappreciated first film from Joe Cornish that stars John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) and Jodie Whittaker (Doctor Who), as a gang of young kids on bikes deal with threats from invading aliens, drug dealers, and local police. Afterwards Drew and Rafe tackle what they think would make the key ideas in running an Attack the Block inspired game session or campaign.
What games would you use to run an Attack the Block inspired game? What other threats can you think of beyond what the film provides? Let us know what inspiration this film has given you. Interact with the show on Instagram and Twitter or email us at theneversaydiepodcast@gmail.com.

Inter-MISSION: The Goonies
Tuesday Nov 16, 2021
Tuesday Nov 16, 2021
We're back with our first Inter-MISSION! Since we're only looking at one movie each month, our Inter-MISSION episodes will help bridge the gap between episodes as we look at listener feedback, revisit any thoughts we had on the movie, talk about what is catching our interest on Kickstarter, and reveal next month's film. Thank you to everyone who gave us such awesome feedback on our look at The Goonies and Drew and Rafe have a lot to chat about, from the lack of diversity in Kids on Bikes movies to squabbling over who gets to introduce what Kickstarter project.

1. The Goonies (1985)
Tuesday Oct 26, 2021
Tuesday Oct 26, 2021
What other movie would a podcast called "Never Say Die!" pick for its first movie discussion? Drew and Rafe talk about Richard Donner's 1985 picture - a film both of them give a lot of credit to for laying the foundation for "Kids on Bikes" movies. This is a movie with a lot to inspire any game world, from ticking clocks created by the pursuit of superior foes to treasure maps and traps to ideas of how to create a comfortable little town for your game to inhabit. Plus the introduction of our KoB team draft!
Who would you pick for your KoB team? Is Stef the worst or best character in the movie? Let us know what inspiration The Goonies has given you. Interact with the show on Instagram and Twitter or email us at theneversaydiepodcast@gmail.com.
